DBT combines standard cognitive-behavioral techniques for emotion regulation and realitytesting with concepts of mindful awareness, distress tolerance, and acceptance. It is a comprehensive approach that involves individual therapy, skills training group sessions, and phone coaching, with a focus on the psychosocial aspects of treatment.
